TIU and Clean Eating

So if you’ve already read my post about myself, I may have mentioned a group called Tone It Up. Many of you visiting this blog may already know me because of TIU, but for those of you who don’t have any clue what I’m talking about, I’ll explain here.

Back in my senior year, sometime in the spring, I decided I was going to start doing workouts off YouTube. I started randomly searching videos, when I found Tone It Up. The two girls in the videos, Karena and Katrina, have since changed my life. Their energetic personalities, fun workouts, and awesome blog were so much fun to look over, and I spent a long time doing their videos in my living room, dying the whole time, but enjoying it. I kept up with their YouTube, but didn’t really connect with the amazingness of their community until last year. In the spring of 2012, I started the SELF Drop 10 challenge, and who were the trainers that designed all the workouts? You guessed it.

I was so excited to rediscover them, and during the first half of the challenge, I lost 5 pounds and felt really toned. That was the first time I started to see my hip bones coming out, which was something I never had before! After I moved out, I bought their nutrition plan and joined the community through their blog. I don’t go on the community as much now, but I always hashtag them on twitter and instagram (obsessed with IG btw).

The TIU diet follows the guidelines of “clean eating”- this means eating whole, real foods, unprocessed and unaltered, except of course unless they’re cooked. As soon as I started to follow these guidelines, I lost a TON of fat and gained muscle, as well as a bunch of energy. I did take out eggs and dairy of course when I went vegan, which was sad because TIU made me fall in love with greek yogurt and protein pancakes, but luckily I now can make vegan versions.

With all the dangerous ingredients out there these days, like aspartame, high fructose corn syrup, fillers and hormones, it’s more important than ever to read labels and reach for real fruits and veggies rather than those packaged products. Shop farmers markets, look up healthier versions of your favorite recipes, commit to eating clean and it changes your life! I don’t crave junk anymore, and anytime I do crave a treat, I make a clean version. And the TIU nutrition plan had so many amazing recipes that are easy to make and use real ingredients.

I’m not here to say you should buy the TIU plan, but I do believe clean eating is the best thing you can do for yourself and your body. I’m hoping to post a lot of recipes here and they will be clean and vegan of course, so keep your eyes out and you just might have a new favorite recipe!
